Pick up Pintxos, Folkestone

This Basque region tapas restaurant in the heart of the creative quarter in Folkestone serves an array of modern and authentic basque cuisine, there are none of the typical tapas crowd pleasers, and the menu is creatively put together with starters such as salt cod fritters with saffron aioli, morcilla, and membrillo balls, and gambas pil pil ( ok maybe one crowd pleaser). They serve hot and cold pintxos, which are ideal for sharing. The jamon croquetas are a favourite here - bread crumb croquetas filled with jamon in a silky bechamel sauce and the beef rib from Gipuzkoa (San Sebastian) in the Basque Country. This beef is from a 182-month 15- year-old Pyrenean cow used for dairy production. At the end of the dairy process, they roam free range in the Basque mountains; it is cooked on an asador, a traditional wood and charcoal burning grill used in the Basque region of Spain, and seasoned only with salt. 2-4 South Street, Folkestone CT20 1RW pickuppintxos.com
