When it comes to travel, few things rival the magic of a perfectly tailored experience — and no one understands that better than Angela Briggs, a member of one of the UK’s most discerning luxury travel agencies, Designer Travel. With a career built on intuition, insider knowledge, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, Angela has carved out a niche in the high-end travel world, crafting journeys that are as seamless as they are unforgettable.
We sat down with Angela to talk about the evolving definition of luxury, what it takes to deliver once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and the destinations she’s most excited about right now.
What inspired you to start your own luxury travel agency, and what does “luxury” mean to you today?
After over 20 years in the travel industry I felt it was time to bring everything I’d learned into something truly personal. I launched my own luxury travel business in 2020 with Designer Travel because I wanted to offer a more bespoke, high-end service—one that goes beyond brochures and online booking systems. I wanted to truly listen, understand my clients, and craft tailor-made experiences that reflect who they are and what they love.
To me, luxury today means ease, time, and personal touches. It’s not just 5-star hotels—it’s private transfers, thoughtful extras, and knowing everything is taken care of so you can truly relax.
Luxury is different for every client, and that’s what makes my job so exciting. Whether it’s a secluded beach escape, a bucket-list safari, or a once-in-a-lifetime family celebration, my role is to make it effortless, memorable, and completely stress-free.
How do you go about curating a truly bespoke travel experience for your clients?
It all starts with building relationships with my clients, some of my regular clients have become good friends. I take time to understand their travel style, preferences, must-haves, their family and even the things they didn’t know they wanted. I take the time to listen, ask the right questions, and learn what makes a trip special for them.
From there, I use my industry knowledge, trusted global contacts, and attention to detail to craft a tailor-made itinerary. Every element is carefully chosen—from the perfect hotel and private transfers to unique experiences that align with their interests. It’s about creating something personal, seamless, and unforgettable—every time.
What’s the most unique or memorable travel request you’ve ever fulfilled?
One of the most unforgettable experiences I arranged was a bespoke safari in South Africa, where a couple enjoyed private game drives, luxury lodges, and a surprise hot air balloon ride over the savannah at sunrise. Every moment was carefully planned to create magic and lasting memories.
Separately, I’ve also planned beautiful destination weddings and intimate celebrations in stunning villas, complete with personalised chefs and unique local experiences. Whether it’s a wedding, honeymoon, or special occasion, crafting these once-in-a-lifetime moments is what I love most.
How do you ensure that your partners and destinations meet the high standards your clients expect?
I only work with trusted, reputable partners who share my commitment to exceptional service and quality. Many of these relationships have been built over years, and I regularly review feedback, visit properties, and stay up to date with what’s happening on the ground.
If I wouldn’t stay there myself or recommend it to a loved one, I won’t suggest it to a client. It’s all about consistency, attention to detail, and working with people who genuinely care about the guest experience as much as I do.
What are some of your current favourite destinations for high-end travel experiences?
Right now, I’m loving the Maldives for its barefoot luxury and overwater villas—perfect for true relaxation. Italy remains a timeless favourite, with its boutique stays, rich culture, and stunning coastlines. South Africa offers a fantastic mix of luxury safaris, wine estates, and dramatic scenery.
Thailand is also high on my list, especially with the buzz around The White Lotus filming there. From chic resorts in Koh Samui to private island retreats in Phang Nga Bay, it blends world-class service, exotic beauty, and cultural charm effortlessly.
And of course, Dubai never disappoints for those who love ultra-modern luxury and exclusive experiences. The beauty of high-end travel is that it’s never one-size-fits-all—it’s about matching the destination to the person.
How have client expectations changed in recent years, and how has your agency adapted?
A lot of clients are looking for more than just a holiday—they want meaningful, personalised experiences with peace of mind built in. There’s a stronger focus on flexibility, privacy, and value for time. People want seamless service, unique touches, and trusted advice from someone who truly understands their needs.
I’ve adapted by becoming even more client-focused—offering highly tailored itineraries, being available when they need me, and working only with partners who deliver exceptional quality. It’s about being one step ahead to ensure every trip feels effortless and unforgettable.
What’s one luxury travel experience you believe everyone should try at least once?
An Overwater Villa in the Maldives or Bora BoraImagine waking up in your own private villa, perched above crystal-clear turquoise waters. You step out onto your deck and descend directly into the warm sea below for a morning swim. Days are spent lounging in absolute privacy, soaking up the sun, and enjoying spa treatments overlooking the ocean.
These villas combine stunning natural beauty with the utmost comfort and exclusivity, making them the ultimate escape for honeymooners, couples, or anyone seeking tranquility and breathtaking surroundings. It’s barefoot luxury at its finest—simple, serene, and unforgettable
What trends do you see shaping the future of luxury travel over the next few years?
Luxury travel is changing fast. People want trips that feel personal and real, where they can connect with local culture, nature, and unique experiences—while still enjoying privacy and comfort. Sustainability is now essential, with eco-friendly luxury options leading the way to protect our planet.
Technology is making travel easier, with smooth booking, virtual helpers, and smart hotel rooms that now adjust lighting, temperature, and entertainment based on guest preferences that improve comfort without losing a personal touch. Contactless payments, digital room keys, and app-based services ensure convenience without compromising safety or privacy
Wellness travel is growing too, focusing on health, mindfulness, and relaxing in peaceful, often remote places.
Emerging destinations like Oman, Albania, and the less-explored regions of Japan and Africa are gaining popularity, offering fresh and exclusive experiences away from the usual luxury hotspots.
Innovative luxury trends like underwater hotels, immersive cultural retreats, stays in Ice hotels and glass bubbles are redefining what high-end travel means.
