MRBL London: A Modern Steakhouse in the Heart of Leadenhall Market

Updated: Apr 28

Set beneath the striking architecture of Leadenhall Market, MRBL London brings a fresh, contemporary energy to one of the city’s most historic settings. Opened in March 2026, this modern British steakhouse feels both well placed and well considered, offering a confident take on classic dining in the heart of the City.

From the moment you arrive, there is a sense of occasion. The setting alone does much of the work, the grandeur of the market paired with MRBL’s clean, modern interior creates a contrast that works naturally well. It is a space that naturally lends itself to long lunches, after work dinners and those moments where London feels at its most atmospheric.

The offering begins with a selection of small plates and starters that set the tone. Dishes such as slow-braised rump croquettes and chipolatas with English mustard feel rooted in tradition, yet elevated through execution.

The main event, however, is the steak. House cuts such as chateaubriand and porterhouse are designed for sharing, reinforcing the restaurant’s social, City-led atmosphere. Each is served with a choice of flavoured butters, from blue cheese to fermented chilli along side classic sauces, the bone marrow sauce is a must, rich, indulgent and just as good for dipping the chips.

Sides are where the menu shows a little personality. Beef fat triple-cooked chips, marrow mash and crisp hash browns with black garlic aioli sit comfortably alongside lighter options such as Caesar salad and charred hispi cabbage. They feel indulgent, but intentionally so designed to complement rather than compete with the quality of the meat.

For those looking beyond steak, the menu remains cohesive. Dishes such as grilled monkfish tail and roast chicken continue the charcoal-led approach, offering alternatives without stepping away from the restaurant’s core identity.

The wine list is equally considered, offering a strong selection that complements the menu with ease. There is a sense of curation rather than excess, making it easy to find something that works, whether you are settling in for a full dining experience or stopping by for a glass alongside something lighter.

As the space fills, there is a noticeable shift in energy, a blend of City professionals, relaxed diners and those drawn in by the setting itself. It feels social without being overwhelming, polished without being overly formal. This balance is one of MRBL’s strengths, allowing it to appeal across occasions.

Service is polished and efficient, though at times it leans more towards structured than personal. That said, MRBL London delivers exactly what it sets out to do, a refined, contemporary steakhouse experience in a standout London location. With its strong focus on quality, thoughtful design and a setting that is difficult to rival, it is a welcome addition to the City’s dining scene.

For those looking for a reliable yet elevated address for steak and wine in London, MRBL is one to have firmly on your list this season.
